昆明医学院法医学院是全国最早的9所高等医学院校法医学院（系）之一。1984年成立法医学专业并招收法医学本科生，1988年成立法医学系，1996年为法医学硕士授权学科，2002年8月成立法医学院，2005年3月新增法学专业（医事法学方向）。法医学院下设法医学专业和法学专业两个本科专业，设法医病理学教研室、法医物证学教研室、法医临床学教研室、法医毒物分析教研室、医事法学教研室、刑侦技术教研室6个业务科室。法医学专业为云南省重点专业，法医病理学为国家级精品课程，法医学为校重点学科。法医学院是司法部全国司法鉴定转岗培训基地、云南省司法鉴定教育培训基地和云南省研究生教育创新联合培养基地。
长期坚持“以人才培养为根本，立足云南，面向全国，服务政法，保障基层”的办学思路，坚持“以培养高素质、能力强的应用型高级法医学和医事法学人才”为目标导向，坚持联合办学，法医学专业实行提前录取，定招定分。和省内外政法机关共建教学基地，建立法医专业实践教学基地9个，法学专业实践教学基地2个，形成了完善的专业实践教学体系，创建了具有鲜明地方特色的人才培养模式。目前在校法医学专业和法学专业本科生近400人，已招收10届法医学硕士研究生56名。已招收培养本科生1117人，其中法医学本科生25届988人，四年制法学本科生4届129人。毕业生走上了各级领导岗位，大批成为技术领导和技术骨干，为维护司法公正、维护社会稳定做出了重要贡献。
法医学院现有教职工35人，其中教授4人，副教授及高级实验师9人、讲师及以下职称教师22人，博士学位5人，硕士学位18人，硕士研究生导师8人。享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家1人，云南省中青年学术技术带头人1人，省师德标兵1人，省级教学名师1人，学校“学者风采”人选1人，学校重点学科带头人3人。教师出国留学进修22人次，24人次担任中国法医学会全国委员会委员、中国卫生法学会理事、云南省司法鉴定协会副会长等国家、省级学术团体职务。
学科优势特色研究领域包括颅脑损伤、药物滥用毒理学、遗传标记、毒药物代谢、交通事故损伤机制、医患法律关系研究。具有较好的科研资源优势和科研基础条件，拥有大鼠标准化行为实验室、药物滥用毒理实验室、DNA分析室、毒物分析实验室、刑事技术实验室。主持承担国家自然科学基金项目6项、教育部重点项目分项目1项，省高新技术攻关项目分项目1项，省应用基础计划项目14项，云南省教育厅科研基金项目10项。获国家卫生部科技成果三等奖1项，省科技进步三等奖9项，省级教学成果奖4项，云南省卫生厅科技进步三等奖1项，校级教学成果奖14项。参编全国规划教材13部，主参编教材及学术专著11部，国内外有影响的刊物上发表论文500多篇，其中SCI收录11篇。
昆明医学院司法鉴定中心是具有独立法人资格的司法鉴定机构，由法医学院具体负责管理。中心各级司法鉴定人员55人，设6个业务鉴定室和3个地区（市）派驻鉴定机构，承接云南省各级公、检、法及卫生行政部门委托的重大、疑难刑事及民事案件的司法鉴定工作。为云南省司法鉴定协会副会长、昆明市司法鉴定协会会长单位，为云南省最具学术权威的法医类司法鉴定机构。
昆明医学院法医学院已成为云南省高等法医学和医事法学人才培养、科研和司法鉴定的中心。
Introduction of School of Forensic Medicine，Kunming

School of Forensic Medicine，Kunming Medical University，is one of the earliest nine forensic medicine schools authorized by Ministry of Chinese Education．In 1984 Department of Forensic Medicine of Kunming Medical University was set up and it began to enroll in the undergraduates majoring in Forensic Medicine．In 1988 Faculty of Forensic Medicine was set up．In 1996 Kunming Medical University was authorized to enroll in the postgraduates majoring in Forensic Medicine．In 2002 School of Forensic Medicine was established．In March of 2005 the Law Science majoring in Medical Law，was set up in School of Forensic Medicine．
School of Forensic Medicine consists of the following six teaching departments：Department of Forensic Pathology，Department of Forensic Biology，Department of Forensic Clinical Medicine，Department of Forensic Toxicology，Department of Medical Law，and Department of Criminal Technology．
At present Forensic Medicine is a key specialty of Yunnan Province authorized by the Educational Department of Yunnan Province．Forensic Pathology is a National Classic Course authorized by the National Educational Department of P．R．China．School of Forensic Medicine is the Judicial Educational Training Center of the Ministry of Justice of P．R．China，the Judicial Educational Training Center of Yunnan Province and the Postgraduate Educational Training Center of Yunnan Province．
For a long run，School of Forensic Medicine insists on its teaching thought．The later means that school should train the students not only coming from Yunnan Province but also coming from the whole nation，as the qualified personnel，for the basic Public Security Organs and the other relevant Health organs．School of Forensic Medicine should also insist on its teaching aim，which means finishing the teaching task by cooperating with the Public Security Department of Yunnan Province．The pre-enrollment and distribution to the certain areas of Yunnan Province is also the teaching aim of School of Forensic Medicine．
Since the establishment of School of Forensic Medicine，nine teaching bases on Forensic Medicine and two teaching bases on Medical Law are set up together with the Public Security Organs and the Health Organs．Up to now a complete teaching system for practical training or teaching model has been set up．
At present there is an enrollment of 400 of bachelor-degree undergraduate students majoring in Forensic Medicine and Medical Law．Up to now 1117 undergraduate students majoring in Forensic Medicine and Medical Law are trained in the past 25 years．Among which there are 988 undergraduate students majoring in Forensic Medicine and 129 undergraduate students majoring in Medical Law were included．At the same time 56 postgraduate students，major in Forensic Medicine，have graduated from the School of Forensic Medicine in the past 10 years．Now the graduates are working as the scientific figures or the skillful leaders．They have contributed their life to the society．
Up to now there are 35 staff members working in School of Forensic Medicine．Among them there are 4 professors，6 associate professors，3 premier technicians，22 lecturers and associate lecturers．Among the 35 staff members 5 got doctor-degree，18 got master-degree，and 8 became master-degree advisors．
The teaching team has achieved a lot in the past．Among the 35 staff members，one got the “Leading Specialist”title issued from Chinese Government，one got the “Back-bone Leading Figure”title issued from Yunnan province，two got the title of “Provincial Excellent Teachers”issued from Yunnan province，one as the Excellent Teacher”issued from Kunming Medical University，and three “Back-bone Teachers on Key Subject”issued from Kunming Medical University．
School of Forensic Medicine has dispatched 22 staff members to the developed countries for their advanced study，academic visit，specialized training，international conference，or some academic exchange programs as a visiting scholar．The teaching team has also got the national on provincial academic position．At present 24 staff members work as the national committee of the Chinese Association for Forensic Medicine，the national committee of the Chinese Medical Law Association，and the provincial committee of Yunnan Judicial Expertise Association．
Besides the teaching task，the scientific research in the School of Forensic Medicine is outstanding．The main research fields are the brain trauma study，research on drug abuse toxicology，minority biogenetics study，toxicology analyses，traffic trauma technical study，the study of Medical Law，and so forth．There are laboratories for histology，animal experiments，drug abuse research，toxicology research and DNA analyses，and Forensic Science study within School of Forensic Medicine．More then 30 research projects have been granted from provincial or national scientific research foundations since the establishment of the school．The most important thing is，besides these financial supports from the research programs，some of the research subjects have been complicated together with the public security bureaus，the medical-legal teaching basements or some other relevant institutes．Basing on the course teaching，scientific research and medico-legal investigation，research papers are published and the scientific awards are issued．Since the establishment of the school more then 500 papers have been published in the provincial，national or even worldwide journals，and among which 11 papers are collected by SCI．Totally 30 research awards have been issued by provincial and national government．About 40 academic books，including 13 specialized textbooks，have been published．
The Judicial Expertise Center of Kunming Medical University is a qualified judicial expertise institute attached to School of Forensic Medicine of Kunming Medical University．Up to now there are 55 forensic specialists working in 6 of the judicial departments in the Judicial Expertise Center of Kunming Medical University，and in the 3 departments attached to the local government．The Judicial Expertise Center is authorized by the Judicial Department of Yunnan Province，to perform the important medico-legal investigation to serve for the public，such as the public security bureaus，prosecutors，courts，judicial institutes，medical departments，hospitals，insurance companies，solicitors，or the individuals．Every year the Judicial Expertise Center is authorized to perform about thousands of medico-legal investigations．
The School of Forensic Medicine is one of the most famous schools in Kunming Medical University，and even in the whole country．The School of Forensic Medicine and the Center of Judicial Expertise Center has been playing a comprehensive role both in teaching，research and the judicial expertise service in Yunnan Province．
