Founded in 1953, Shanghai Publishing an d Printing College (SPPC) was the first higher educational institution linked to the publishing an d printing industry in China. Co-sponso red by the fo rmer General Administration of Press an d Publication an d Shanghai Municipality, it is the cradle of professional education in this field. In 2008, SPPC was rated as excellent by the Ministryof Education in evaluation of talent training in higher vocational college. In 2010, it was listed as one of the 100 key construction units of higher vocational colleges in China. In 2015, it passed the inspection of the Ministryof Education an d the Ministry of Finance an d obtained the Excellent level. In 2017, a teacher of SPPC was selected as the image ambassado r fo r the 46th Wo rld Skills Competition, an d the college also helped Shanghai win the right to host the Wo rld Skills Competition in 2021.
Over the past 69 years, SPPC has trained mo re than 60,000 high-level technical talentsan d senio r management personnel fo r China's publishing an d printing industry. Asrepresentatives of China, some students in SPPC attend the Wo rld Skills Competition fo r three years, an d won the bronze an d silver medals in the Print Media Technology Projects of the 42nd an d 43rd Wo rld Skills Competitions, in 2013 an d 2015 respectively. In the two consecutive American Printing Awards in 2017 an d 2018, teachers an d students from SPPC won 15 of the highest awards -- the Benny Award. As high-skilled talents in China's print media are gradually moving from SPPC to the wo rld, the college was identified by the Ministry of Human Resources an d Social Security as the China Training Base fo r the 43rd, 44th an d 45th Print Media Technology Project in Wo rld Skills Competition, an d wasawarded the “National Skilled Talent Training Outstan ding Contribution Award”. SPPC has also been identified as the National Training Base fo r Printing an d Publishing Talents by the fo rmer State Press an d Publication Administration an d has been awarded the Outstan ding Contribution Award fo r the Trainingof Skilled Talents fo r five times. In March 2018, Simon Bartley, Presidentof the Wo rld Skills o rganization, was hired as an hono rary professo r in the collegean d established Simon Bartley China Skills Research Studio.

The Green Platemaking an d Stan dardization Labo rato ry of flexographic Printing, built by SPPCas the leading unit, has been approved as the professional fieldlabo rato ry in the first batch of key labo rato ries of science, technology an dstan dards in the press an d publishing industry, which is a national an dprovincial key labo rato ry in project construction.
SPPC attaches great impo rtance to internationalcooperation an d exchanges, an d has fo rged a good partnership with universities,multinational companies an d industry o rganizations across mo re than 30countries an d regions, including the United States, Canada, Russia, Britain,France, Finlan d, Japan an d Singapo re. Among them, there are many internationalwell-known units, such as Rochester Institute of Technology in the UnitedStates, the University of Oulu in Finlan d, Nanyang Technology University inSingapo re, Heidelberg Printing Machinery Co., Ltd in German an d Komo ri Co., Ltdin Japan. The college cooperates with the Otterbein University (in the US), theRochester Institute of Technology, the French 3IS-Institut International de L’imageet du son (3IS) an d the French Business college Art, Culture, Luxury, Cultural Heritage (EAC) to o rganize a numberof Chinese-fo reign cooperative education projects approved by the ChineseMinistry of Education. Among them, the project of printing picture an d textinfo rmation processing (among colleges) jointly held by the university wasrated as the second Shanghai model Sino-fo reign cooperative educationcommendation project. Since SPPC successfully completed the on-site evaluationof the American media Accrediting Council fo r Collegiate Graphic Communications(ACCGC) certification fo r print media technology, internationalized collegeinghas become the bran d of SPPC.
SPPC actively responded to the Belt an d Road Initiative of the country, vigo rouslycarried out overseas technical skills programs, set up a Bisheng Wo rkshop TrainingBase in Tashkent Institute of Textile an d Light Industry in Uzbekistanan d, an dassisted the Bangladesh National Printing Industry Association in thepreparation of the printing vocational college. The book of Publishing an dPrinting Personnel Training Textbook, as a training material, carries outprinting skills training fo r staff in countries along the Belt an d Road, whichpromotes international publishing an d printing service, an d enhances thecooperation an d exchanges between industry an d the countries along the route.
At present, the college has nearly 6,000 full-time students. The students trainedby the college have been widely welcomed by the employers. The employment rateof college graduates has been above 99% fo r many years, an d the rate of undergraduate promotion hasbeen maintained at mo re than 15%.
