机械工程学院前身是1985年由原湖北农业机械专科学校农业机械专业与湖北轻工业学院机电系轻工机械专业合并组建的机械工程系，1992年3月被中共湖北省高校工作委员会确定的武汉地区十二所高校系（院）级改革试点单位之一。2003年6月经学校批准，机械工程系更名为机械工程学院。经过20年的建设和发展，学院已经成长为规模适中，专业、学科布局合理，教学、科研并举，学科独具特色、生机盎然的支柱学院之一。

　　　　　　

　　学院设有7个系、3个研究所和1个实验中心。学院现有教职工总数138人，其中硕士研究生导师43人，教授29人，副教授46人，博士28人（含博士后4人）。有国家百千万人才工程第一、二层次人选1人，教育部新世纪优秀人才支持计划1人，湖北省新世纪高层次人才工程第二层次3人；湖北省“楚天学者计划”特聘教授1人，湖北省跨世纪学科带头人2人，跨世纪学术骨干2人；享受国务院专家津贴及湖北省政府专项津贴12人，湖北省有突出贡献的中青年专家5人；教育部2006-2010教学指导委员会委员3人。另有谭建荣院士等一批兼职教授。

　　学院以仪器科学与技术、机械工程学科为依托，着力建设跨学科的“现代制造质量工程”学科群，现有1个一级学科硕士点，6个二级学科硕士点，1个省级优势学科，3个省级重点学科，6个本科专业（其中1个国家特色专业）。现有普教本科学生2096人，硕士研究生100名。在全国大学生数学建模、电子设计、“挑战杯”、创新设计大赛及英语竞赛中曾多次获得一、二、三等奖。

　　2003年至今，已承担、完成国家级项目9项，省部级及企业横向合作研究项目400多项，其中国家自然科学基金5项，科研经费累计4420余万元；获省级及以上科学技术进步一、二、三等奖共19项，获湖北省教学研究成果一、二、三等奖8项，发表学术论文1000余篇，其中被SCI、EI、ISTP等检索127篇，出版专著和主编教材40余部。

　　近年来学院曾获“湖北省高校先进基层党组织”和“湖北省高校大学生思想政治教育工作先进单位”荣誉称号，多次被评为校先进基层党委（党总支）、校文明单位等。获全国五一劳动奖章2人，获全国优秀教师1人，获湖北省劳动模范1人，获湖北省五四青年奖章1人。

　　

　　Introduction to Mechanical Engineering College

　　Mechanical Engineering College’s predecessor is Mechanical Engineering Department which was combined Agricultural Mechanics Major in Hebei Agricultural Mechanical Academy with Light Industry Mechanics Major of Machinery and Electronic Department in Hubei Light Industry Mechanical College in 1985. Approved by the university in June 2003， Mechanical Engineering College was renamed from Mechanical Engineering Department. After 20 years’ development ， it has been one of key and important colleges with moderate scale， rational majors ， distinctive disciplines in Hubei University of Technology.　It is full of vigor and pays equal attention to teaching and research.

　　There are 7 departments， 3 institutes and 1 experiment center in the college. At present it consists of 138 staff members， including 43 postgraduate supervisors， 29 professors， 46 associate professors， and 28 doctors （ including 4 postdoctors）， 1 “National May t Labor Medal” awarder， 1 “Hubei Model worker” awarder， 1 “May 4th Youth Medal” awarder.

　　Relying on the disciplines of Instrument Science and Mechanical Engineering， the college pays much attention to the construction of the discipline group -“Modern Manufacturing Quality Engineering”. The college consists of one primary standard discipline of master degree， six secondary standard discipline of master degree， one provincial superior discipline， three provincial key disciplines， six BA degree majors （including one national characteristic discipline）， 2096 undergraduates， and 100 graduates. Students of the college has got excellent grades for several times in national Mathematical Modeling Contest， Electronic Designing Contest， "Challenge Cup" Contest， Creative Designing contest， and English Contest， and so on.
