甘肃农业大学林学院成立于1986年，是在1958年创建的林学系的基础上发展组建起来，隶属甘肃农业大学。是我校唯一一所经甘肃省人民政府批准成立的二级学院。学院办学专业和学科由原来林学系设有一个林学本科专业发展到目前有林学、园林、水土保持与荒漠化防治三个本科专业及水土保持与荒漠化防治学科博士、硕士学位授权点、森林经理、林木遗传育种和农业推广（林学领域）等硕士学位授权点。并开设有“林业生态环境工程与管理”、“园林”两个本科高等教育自学考试应用型专业。形成了具有本科、硕士、专业学位硕士、博士等多教育层次、多专业、普通教育与成人教育相结合的高等林业教育体系。
学院现有林学、水土保持与荒漠化防治、园林三个系和园林与水土保持规划设计研究院一所，并建立了校属林学院森林资源培育与保护实验教学中心，下设水土保持实验室、荒漠化防治实验室、森林培育实验室、种苗实验室、园林规划室、林木遗传育种实验室、森林经理实验室、森林保护实验室、树木学实验室。其中树木标本室已加入中国植物标本馆网络，并被国际植物分类学会注册认可，国际代码为GAUF。学院还有藏书2000余卷册的资料室。同时，学院在祁连山国家级自然保护区、甘肃省治沙研究所、兴隆山国家级自然保护区、兰州市园林植物研究所、定西水土保持研究所、平凉市崆峒林果经济林区等地建立校外实习基地。另外，学校每年有“钱学森沙产业奖学金班”的资助奖励，奖励25-30名品学兼优的优秀学生，每人授奖金额2000元。
学院现有教职工44人，其中在职教授8人，副教授8人，讲师10人，助教12人。其中博士8人，在读博士12人，具硕士学位26人，在读硕士2人。有甘肃省跨世纪学术带头人2人，“333”、“555”创新人才4人。有研究生、本科生和成人教育等各类在校学生2100人，其中博士研究生3人，硕士研究生60人，本科生763人，历年共培养各类毕业生达6091人。
学院在完成教学任务的同时，还积极开展科学研究、科技推广、科技扶贫工作。近5年，学院主持国家林业局、甘肃省科技攻关等科研项目15项，科研经费120万元；获得省部级科技进步奖4项；主编、参编教材5部，其他科学专著5部，编写专业课实验、实习指导书12种；在国家和省级权威刊物上发表学术论文140余篇。
The college of forestry at Gansu Agricultural University was founded in 1982．which was developed from forestry department set up in 1958．The college is the only second -grade college at our university authorized by the People’s government of Gansu province．Based on the original forestry department with only one discipline of forestry for undergraduate，the college has developed as one comprising 3 disciplines for undergraduate，including forestry，landscape architecture and soil and water conservation and desertification combating，1 doctoral program of soil and water conservation and desertification combating，4 master programs，including soil and water conservation and desertification combating，forest management，forest genetics and breeding and one in the specialty of agricultural extension（forestry direction），2 applied disciplines for undergraduate self-study high education examination，including forestry ecological engineering and management and landscape architecture．The college has formed the high forestry education system characterized by multi-level of undergraduate，master，specialty master and doctoral education，multi-discipline，combining the general education with adult education．
The college comprises 3 departments and 1 research institute：the department of forestry，the department of soil and water conservation and desertification combating，the department of landscape architecture and the research institute for landscape architecture plan and design and soil and water conservation．The experimental teaching centre of forest resource cultivation and conservation was set up，including soil and water conservation laboratory，desertification combating laboratory，forest cultivation laboratory，seed and seedling laboratory，landscape architecture plan room，forest genetics and breeding laboratory，forest management laboratory，forest protection laboratory，dendrology laboratory，among which specimen room acceded to Chinese Plant Specimen Museum Net and was registered and accepted by international plant taxonomy society，with the international code of GAUF．In addition，the college has 1 reference material room collecting more than 2000 volumes of books．Practice bases outside was set up in Qilianshan National Nature Reserve，Gansu Desert Control Research Institute，Xinlongshan National Nature Reserve，Lanzhou Landscape Plant Research Institute，Dingxi Soil and Water Conservation Research Institute，Kongtongshan Forest and Fruit Economic Forest Area．Annually 25—30 excellent both academically and morally undergraduates received 2000-yuan encouragement sponsored by Qianxuesen Deserticulture scholarship at our university．
The college has 44staff，including 8 professors and 8associate professors．10 instructors，12assistants．8PhD，12PhD candidates，26masters and 2 master candidates，4 staff was included in “333，555 innovative talent engineering”．There are 2100 students at the college，including 3 Ph．D，60 masters and 763undergraduates，with 6091 postgraduates cultivated in the past years．
The college actively has been carrying out scientific research，scientific and technical extension，technical poverty relief work before finishing teaching task．In the latest 5 years，the project supported by State Forestry Bureau and Gansu scientific and technological targeted project in the charge of the college amounted to 15 items，with 1．2 million yuan of scientific research funds；4 got the provincial-level scientific and Technological progress award，5 editor and reference teaching materials，5 other academic monographs got published，12 experimental and practice guide books was compiled，over 140 academic papers was published on national and provincial authoritative journal．
