外国语学院成立于2004年6月，设有英语系、日语系、俄语系、大外一部、大外二部、大外三部、儿童语言研究中心和语言中心。学院现有英语、日语、俄语三个本科专业，“英语语言文学”“日语语言文学”两个硕士学位授权学科。现有全日制在校本科生1380名，硕士研究生97名。专任教师 162名，外聘美、英、加、日等国家的外籍教师约20名。研究领域为语言学、文学、文化、翻译等。
英语专业主要培养具有坚实的英语语言基础和跨文化交际能力，一定的对外商务活动能力，并具有广泛的科技基础知识，较强的计算机操作能力，能从事科研、生产、外事和教育等部门工作的复合型、应用型英语专业人才。
日语专业是校级重点专业，主要培养从事各类日语翻译（口译、笔译）、日语教育、科研及与日语有关工作的德才兼备并富于交际能力的日语专业人才。
俄语专业主要培养具有扎实的俄英双语语言基础、良好的交际能力、广泛的科学文化知识、较强的计算机操作能力和一定的科研素质，能从事俄英双语翻译、教学和研究工作的高级应用型人才。
学院注重学科建设和科研工作，近几年来承担国家自然科学基金项目、国家社科基金项目、省部级项目二十余项。积极开展国际间的学术交流与合作，已与美国、英国、日本等国的多所高校和社会团体建立了长期友好的合作关系。
Foreign Languages College
The Foreign Languages College of Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST) was established in June, 2004. It is composed of English Department, Japanese Department Russian Department and two research centers—Center for Children Language Researching and Foreign Language Learning Center. The college offers three specialties for the undergraduates, namely, English, Japanese, Russian and two authorized postgraduate disciplines, i.e. English Linguistics and Japanese Linguistics. There are 1380 full-time undergraduates, 97 postgraduates, 162 full-time teaching staff and 20 foreign teachers coming from the United States, the Great Britain, Japanese and other foreign countries of the like. The main focuses of the college are linguistics, literature, culture and translation.
The English Department is aimed at cultivating all-round and applied talented English professionals with a solid foundation of the language, ability to do cross-cultural communication, business know-how in foreign trade, profound knowledge in science and technology, capability to work on computer, who cater for such professions as scientific research, industry, dealing with foreign affairs and education.
The Japanese Department is a major specialty in our university and aimed at training high principled Japanese professionals with effective communicative abilities, who will work in the field of translation (translator and interpreter), education, scientific research and other works of the like.
The Russian Department is aimed at bringing up advanced applied talents professionals with a good command of both Russian and English, communicative ability, profound knowledge of science and technology, capability to work on computer and potentiality in research, who cater for such professions as translation (Russian and English), education and scientific research.
The college attaches great importance to the work of the construction of major specialties and scientific research. Only in recent years did we take on more than 20 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation and Provincial sections. We have been actively conducting academic exchange and international cooperation these years and already established long-term and friendly relations with many universities and social groups from the United States, the Great Britain, and Japanese and so on.
